NCCS Promotes Catholic Scout Participation
in World Youth Day
The NCCS Religious Activities Committee has been requested to promote
Catholic Scout participation of the World Youth Day by the National Federation
for Catholic Youth Ministry-NFCYM. The annual event, directed by the Holy
Father, will take place in October of each year. The U.S. Catholic
Bishop's, through the NFCYM, are urging all Catholics, especially young
people, to prayerfully reflect on the Gifts of the Spirit.
The Religious Activities Committee has been actively involved in the preparation of
suggested Youth Day Activities which have been published in the 1998 World Youth Day
Resource Manual. All Diocesan Leaders and Committees are urged to actively promote unit
involvement. The Manual, which includes a special section dedicated to Boy Scout
Participation, is available for purchase from NFCYM for only $10.00 and can be ordered by
phone at 202-636-3825.
The U.S. Catholic Bishops, in recognizing Scouting as a Youth Ministry
within the Church, reaches out to our Catholic Scouts through the NCCS.
Our eager and enthusiastic embrace of all that World Youth Day has to
offer will foster a continued appreciation of our work within this Church
Committee and offer the unique opportunity to partner with NFCYM now and
in the future.
