Program delivery for NCCS has stabilized tremendously with the increased usage of the Quality Diocese Award program. We had 106 Arch/Diocesan Committees earn the award in 2008, and we had a dozen programs which failed to repeat from 2007. Each has declared their intent to return as winners next year. This promises that 2009 will be an excellent year with yet another increase on our total of winners. The positive side of this achievement is better communication between the Dioceses and the Regional Leadership.
Our focus for 2009 is celebrating the achieved milestone of 75 years of service by the National Catholic Committee to our Catholic Scouting® population. In conjunction with that, we are asking all of our Diocesan Committees to become more familiar with the life and history of Saint George, the Patron Saint of Scouting. This will require searching for any available information on Saint George via computer inquiry or library research. The information obtained should be used to provide a program segment on him at a retreat, a seminar, a training program or any other event sponsored by your local diocesan committee. This should increase our knowledge of and appreciation for our Patron Saint. This will also help you meet the new Requirement 11 for this year. Please make note of our 75th Anniversary year in all of your program communications for this year. In order to help the Committees plan ahead we are making known now that we anticipate making a couple of Requirement changes for next year, 2010. One of them will ask that each Committee have at least one representative attend or Staff one of our Regional or National NCCS events. This includes the Regional Meeting, a Regional Seminar, the Philmont program, and the National NCCS meeting. Please plan ahead.
We need to coordinate and maximize the utilization of this effort to generate as many new Catholic sponsored units as possible. Any questions that you may have should be directed to your respective Region Chairman. His/her contact info is listed in the NCCS website to assist you in identifying them if necessary
Qualifying Dioceses receive a certificate and two free patches, one for the Chairman and one for the Chaplain. If you order extra patches please consider getting one for presentation to your Bishop at an appropriate time.
Please submit the applications in the designated time frames. All awards will be processed after the first of the year. If you have any questions about this award program please contact your Regional Chairman or NCCS National Vice-Chair for Region Support, Dave Moskal, at dmoskal@worldnet.att.net. Winners
