About this activity

This activity is one of a series of religious activities that honor Mary, the Mother of God. The Church calendar for the United States includes nineteen commemorative Marian feasts. Each activity in this series examines one of the nineteen feasts and focuses on how and why the Church has honored Mary for more than 2,000 years.

How to start


  • What was the original name of the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows when it was added to the Missal?

  • Create a prayer card of Our Lady of Sorrows with a drawing on the front and a prayer to her on the back. Share it with your family and friends.
  • Read or sing the Stabat Mater (At the Cross Her Station Keeping)
  • Pretend you are a newspaper reporter and write a brief article about one of the Seven Sorrows of Mary as if you were there and covering the event for your editor.
  • Create a poster of the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
  • With your parents� permission, make a virtual tour to the national shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Missouri
